According to Sky News they have gained access to messages sent by the leader of the Junior Doctors in which he claimed that his only wish was to tie up the NHS for 18 months and that their sole interest was not patients health but Doctors not losing their overtime pay.
Worth reading Sky News for a better explanation but it's clear that this guy was only intent on bring down the government.
He isn't even British!

Surely only a total fucking idiot puts any store in a News International story that attempts to discredit any striking workers? I mean, how thick and lacking in critical thinking (ie WHY this story has been published) can someone be?
It's so transparently overblown to attempt turn the public against people who already work and save lives at weekends that it's painful to read supposed intelligent adults lapping it up without any kind of questioning what purpose the story serves.

the govt wanted to end doctors earning more money working for agencies and private health care on the side. Hence the 22% wage rise for doing locum work. The BMA just used the junior doctors to get their way.

The Jr Docs I have encountered in the NHS were on max £29k, but the pay was not their main issue.

So what's is the alternative in the world you live in.
Let them work the odd weekend- they already do that.
£37,000 is an ok salary if they have studied medicine for five years, and come out saddled with £60k worth of debts.

Fireman, nurses and police officers work weekends and they get paid vastly less than junior doctors.
£37,000 is a nice salary and the odd Saturday won't kill them.
What I'll do though is plan to have a heart attack between Monday and Friday, is that OK with you?

So we all agree, lots of people work weekends. People work in poundland- fantastic, doctors work weekends-fantastic, Difference being they may be performing cpr to save someones life or checking on a patient who has pneumonia or filling up the pick n mix.
With the greatest respect to the poundland crew, i'd much rather make sure that a skilled person who may well save stonemans life one day is paid well and looked after.

You are correct, people do work weekends, so do a lot of Junior doctors, the issue is when your contracted to work set days for set pay, you expect to receive that. Now back to the strikes, they are because extra payments for working weekend are going to be taken away, Fair or unfair? Its not right to just change some ones contract of employment. with out both sides agreeing. IF your contracted to work weekend, then fair enough. If not, pay a premium for the service.

Maybe we should stop getting ill at weekends?
